How Appointments Work
Appointments are made online using the Book Now feature
All appointments are via internet telemedicine camera, face-to-face, but not in-person
The first step for all patients and inquiries is to book a Discovery appointment
At the end of an appointment, we will advise which appointment type is best to schedule next
Your appointment fee includes:
The blocked, scheduled time with A to Zebra Health
Pre-appointment preparation time
Post-appointment documentation and coordination
Communication with your other providers
Research and analysis regarding your health care
Listening to you is important to us! You will be made aware as we near the appointment time limit, so you can decide to continue at additional charge
CANCELLATIONS: Half of the appointment fee is charged if an appointment is cancelled within 24 hours of its scheduled time.
Appointment Descriptions
Discovery (Optional)
Let’s get to know one another! All new patients are provided a complimentary required Discovery session. During this 15-minute conversation, meet A to Zebra Health founder and practitioner Katie Volkers. Share your health concerns and goals to determine if A to Zebra Health is the right care for your medical needs. (Complimentary)
Coaching & Advocacy (Optional)
This limited-availability session offers you support and the opportunity to share your unique health odyssey with our board-certified Patient Advocate. Your story is refined into a practical one-page document we call Zebra Health Journey. It includes your concerns, goals, medications, and care professionals’ contact information. Your Zebra Health Journey is shared with our APRN Practitioner. ($100 due)
Intake
Now that we have met and decided to move forward together, let’s dig in and discover the details of your health journey.
The intake session (1.5 hours) is a medical appointment. Our APRN Practitioner will have reviewed your medical history. Piecing together a diagnosis starts here. Steps may include reviewing your health history, working through EDS diagnostic criteria, ordering locally available advanced labs and imaging, ordering clinical-diagnostic genetics testing, and helping you see where things may be connected. Referrals like an “EDS aware” physical therapist and/or orthopedic massage therapist may be offered. All this to establish your medical management and symptom resolution program.

Integrative Wellness
This (1 hour) visit is for patients who wish to establish care with A to Zebra Health for health optimization, but do not have connective tissue disorder. Note: new patients desiring this service are encouraged but not required to schedule the Discovery Session prior to booking this visit. (Hourly rate)
In-Depth Lab Testing & Functional Medicine Interpretation
Schedule a 1-hour appointment, because your personalized lab results are in. Katie will interpret and explain in plain language what they mean for you. Often, this break-through session leads the way to providing you a plan to stabilize your condition so you can thrive! (Hourly rate + lab fees)
30-Minute Follow Up
Schedule a 30-minute appointment when you need to discuss an existing problem. For example, a response to a previous treatment, current medication effects, or to update us on the care you may be receiving from other providers. It’s important for A to Zebra Health to have a continued understanding of what’s working for you and what’s not. This is your medical management and symptom resolution plan working for you. (Hourly rate)
60-Minute Follow Up
Schedule a 1-hour appointment when you need to discuss new problems, or complex existing problems. Medical management and symptom resolution services are provided. (Hourly rate)
60-Minute Consultation
Often, an insider’s view without establishing a patient-provider relationship is needed. This may include:
Healthcare consultation for caregivers
Medical services navigation
Lifestyle coaching
This type of appointment does not require an existing patient relationship and does not establish a provider-patient relationship. It can also be ideal for out of state counsel. (Hourly rate + pre-approved travel expenses, if required)
